Volunteer with the Friends!
The Friends of the Ann Arbor District Library (FAADL) is made up of a very dedicated group of local booklovers who believe in supporting our amazing library system and giving our community access to books and other materials at very affordable prices. As a growing, dynamic organization, we need a lot of help! Please see below for our current available volunteer opportunities. We ask that all volunteers be able to commit to a regular weekly 3-hour shift for a minimum of 6 months. Volunteers must also have access to email for communication purposes. If you are interested in volunteering with FAADL, please reach out to our director, Rachel Pastiva, at faadldirector@gmail.com.
Book Shop Cashier: Check out customers during our book shop hours on Saturdays for one three-hour shift, either 10 am to 1 pm or 1 pm to 4 pm. Duties include but are not limited to: cash handling, processing credit card sales, issuing refunds, and bagging up sold merchandise. We use Square software on an iPad so volunteers must be comfortable using a tablet. (This role does not require a weekly commitment, but we prefer volunteers who are able to commit to one or two cashier shifts a month.)
Book Shop Shift Manager: Oversee book shop cashiers during our book shop hours on Saturdays for one three-hour shift, either 10 am to 1 pm or 1 pm to 4 pm. Duties include but are not limited to: helping to open and close the registers, making change, straightening and stocking the book shop and troubleshooting issues as necessary. This volunteer role requires cashier training. (This role does not require a weekly commitment, but we prefer volunteers who are able to commit to one or two shift manager shifts a month.)
Saturday Afternoon Sorter: Process and distribute incoming donations. This volunteer role requires some lifting. Saturdays from 1 pm to 4 pm.
