UPDATE: ANNUAL MEETING OF THE FRIENDS**Note Date Change**The Annual Meeting of the Friends’ membership is now scheduled for June 29 at 2:00 pm at the new Traverwood Branch Library. The meeting date, later in the year than usual, provides us with a special opportunity for our members to preview the Branch before it opens. The new building, which replaces the Northeast Branch in Plymouth Mall, is located at 3333 Traverwood Drive, on the southwest corner of Traverwood Drive and Huron Parkway.
All members are encouraged to attend and use this occasion to help guide the Board in planning for the future. The agenda includes: a report on our activities during the past year, election of the 2008-2009 Board of Directors, proposed Bylaw revisions, an update on renovation planning for the downtown Library, and - refreshments!
Following the meeting, members will be able to tour the new building which was designed by VanTine/Guthrie Studio and built by O’Neal Construction. Traverwood contains an enlarged children’s space, meeting room, computer bar, and expanded collections. Unique features include the utilization of ash trees harvested directly from the site and a rain garden located on the south side of the building.
We hope to see you on Sunday, June 29!

BOOKSHOP EXTENDS SCHEDULE TO JUNE 22 STOCK UP ON SUMMER READING! During this past winter, a survey of shop customers was carried out on two weekends. Among the 260 customers who responded to a series of questions about the shop, a whopping 97% indicated that they would visit the shop if it were open in the summer. Shop volunteers were equally positive. So we are pleased to announce that the Bookshop will be open on weekends through June 22, 2008. The shop will be closed for the remainder of the summer so that volunteers can reorganize and replenish the inventory for the fall opening on September 13.
We hope that you enjoy this additional opportunity to stock up on your summer reading!
Note: Donations of books and other materials are accepted throughout the year at the rear entrance of the downtown library. Maintaining the shop’s substantial and varied inventory is important to the success of the extended schedule.
February 27, 2008:
NEW BOOKSHOP DIRECTOR The FAADL search for a new Bookshop Director has ended with the selection of Janis Detlefs, an Ann Arbor resident and fellow book-lover.
Janis is a native of Michigan and earned a B.A. in Fine Arts and a Master of Arts degree from Wayne State University. For the past few years, she has been a professional organizer; she is the owner of Jan's Straighten Up!, a business in which she assists clients to eliminate clutter and re-organize their homes or work spaces. She also has experience in office management, advertising, and graphic design. Janis has been actively involved in the community and has a sound knowledge of non-profit volunteer organizations.
Janis will be joining us during the first week of March and we will welcome her enthusiasm, creativity, and commitment to the shop.
