Ann Arbor District Library

Bookshop

The Friends of the Ann Arbor District Library manage the Bookshop located on the lower level of the downtown Library. The Bookshop opened its doors in 1980 for the purpose of selling used books inexpensively within the community. Books are also sold in kiosks in each of the branch libraries. Proceeds go to support District Library projects.

• The Bookshop is staffed by volunteers. Throughout the year, volunteers sort, shelve and price books and A/V donations and staff the shop when it is open to the public.

• Donations of books, puzzles, and audio-visual items are accepted from the general public throughout the year and form the majority of books sold at the shop. About 10% of the books come from library withdrawals, while the other 90% come from the public. To learn more about donating materials, see How to Donate Books.

• The Bookshop is a bustling place. We recycle over 200,000 books each year to the community at bargain prices. The mystery, science fiction, drama, classic novel, and hardback fiction sections are alphabetized. There is a special area devoted to children's books. Several thousand books are available for sale, and the shop is regularly restocked so that there is a steady supply of new titles on the shelves. If you can't find the books you are looking for, please ask us.

Our inventory also includes gently-used records, CDs, audio books, videotapes, and sheet music. The puzzles that are available for purchase have been checked by volunteers to ensure that all the pieces are included.
